DL360 G7 ESXi 6.0 Serial Port in VM
Hi,
I have installed the HPE Build of ESXi 6.0 U3 on a DL360 G7. The basic configuration seems OK and I can create and use VMs. I have one VM that I'd like to be able to access the serial port, but I can't get it to work. Can anyone tell me if I can get the onboard serial port to work inside a VM?
I read an HP KB article (c01139344) that advised that I needed to diable remote serial access through the iLO port and disable the BIOS serial console which I have done - to no effefct.
When I try to add another device by editing the VM settings (offline) and try to add a serial port using the "use physical serial port" option, the save option is greyed out, possibly suggesting that ESXI cannot see the onboard serial port?
Can anyone help with this please?
regards
Dave

No Sure if support_s is a bot? but . . . .
the recommendations given do NOT apply to the DL360 Gen 7
As I understand it, the last supported release of ESXI for this server was 6.0U3

Re: Query: DL360 G7 ESXi 6.0 Serial Port in VM
Hi,
As far as I know, this seems to be some configuration within the VMware.
Have you tried the following?
https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-vSphere/6.0/com.vmware.vsphere.vm_admin.doc/GUID-C6FBCF66-5796-4EE6-BF47-4DCAA9DCD1E3.html
Thanks

Re: Query: DL360 G7 ESXi 6.0 Serial Port in VM
HI,
thanks for the reply - yes, those links describe what I am trying to do, but . . . . .
the issue is that described earlier, the "Save" button is greyed out when I try to set the configuration to "use physical serial port", it's as if VMWare cannot see the onboard serial port despite this being the HP build of ESXi 6.0U3
regards

Re: Query: DL360 G7 ESXi 6.0 Serial Port in VM
I have seen that editing VM serial port settings is greyed out on a VM hosted by a vCenter. But that was due to a known vCenter issue (see link below). Maybe you could try to look for VMWare KBs to see if this is also a known issue on the ESXi build your host is installed.
