I'm spec'ing a server at the moment; the remit is for a small yet hard-working box that'll be running a variety of different apps, none of which will have more than a dozen users each.
The DL360G3 has worked well for us in other situations, and I'd like to use the same again. However, disk throughput will be important, so I'm looking at the 6402 array controller - seems to offer the best features without being too over-the-top.
However, in the QuickSpecs for the DL360, both the 6402 and 642 controllers are listed for "external drives only". Is there any reason for this - is it the case the drive cage on the DL360 can't be cabled to any other internal controller apart from the OTB 5i?
If this is the case, do I have any other options to install a faster controller than the 5i in the DL360, or do I have to go up to the DL380?

Solution
You are correct. The cable matrix below explains, the 5i+ is the only controller that can be used for the internal drives.

If you are limited to internal server storage and you need Ultra320 speeds, you will have to move up to the DL380G3.
