DL380 array help
I currently have a server with 2 146.8 drives raid 0+1 running Novell 6.5 SP5. I have two 18.2 and two 72.8 that I wanted to expand the array with. I guess you cannot expand an array with smaller drives...so....I'm building another server to do a migrate.
Problem. I have placed the two 18.2 in bays 0 and 1, and the two 72.8 in bays 2 and 3. When I configure the array for raid 0+1, it recognizes the 18.2 GB but will only recognize 17 GB of the 72 GB. I have updated the ROMpaq and I am using Smartstart 7.91. What am I missing?

Re: DL380 array help
Hello Dave,
Best practice all the HDD same size, because when U create any RAID level that time low size HDD size all ways count.
So U should configure slot 0 & 1 RAID 0+1 and slot 2 & 3 another RAID 0+1. It will be better for U, U use Ur HDD optimum size.
Thanksâ Yaqub

Re: DL380 array help
Hi Dave,
All drives in a RAID 0+1 must be of the same size. Because two of your drives are smaller than the others, then the firmware in the SmartArray controller works to the lowest common denominator - 18.2GB. (or 17GB after you convert marketing to real GB)
Cheers,
Rob
