DL380 Boot from SAN 0xc00000e9

Hi,

I'm trying to install W2k8 on a server with boot from SAN.
Hardware: DL380 G5 with single 4GB HBA (FC1142)
SAN-Switch: Cisco MDS9100
Storage: EVA4000, 50GB LUN presented to host.
I've updated firmware to 8.60 and start the installation process with Smartstart 8.30.
The LUN is visible through the HBA to the server. Installation process starts successfully, Windows imgae is copied to the LUN. After the first reboot, I get the error message "unexpected I/O error 0xc00000e9). One time, the installation process was able to start the windows installtion, but hangs in the very first step, when executing hpssbem in a DOS-box.
Ive tried to set the connection spped fix to 2 Mbit on the HBA, but without success.

Does anyone has an idea why it is impossible to complete the installation?

Hi, haven't tried this exact setup myself.
But have you tried to use the boot from SAN driver?

the link you provide is an update for an Brocade HBA. The HBA I use is an Qlogic HBA.
And I'm trying to install Windows 2008 32bit.
I looked for updated drivers for the Qlogic HBA but I didn't find any.

Hi, you didn't write which version of Windows you were using. Not that it was a qlogic card either.

If you would try to search for the drivers yourself on hp.com you would've seen that there are many variants of FC1142..

The FC1142SR for example seems to be a Qlogic card.

it has a boot from san driver for qlogic hbas.

Thanks Johan,

the problem wasn't the HBA driver but the SAN-Switch. I changed to an Brocade 4/8 switch and everything runs beautiful. I didn't use the Boot-from-SAN driver, I could use the smartstart assisted installation.
In the description to that driver I found some hints about the required BIOS-version of the SAN-Switch. I think that is the problem with the Cisco switch. I will test it again after a BIOS upgrade.
