Hi to all,
I have a DL380 G3 and G2 servers with 6 HDD attached to each of the server and configured as RAID 1 and RAID5 respectively using the integrated smart array controller. My concern is that,is it possible for me to attached external tape drive or a tape library on the external scsi (VHDCI)of the DL380?
Will it function without affecting the RAID set or the logical drives configured on the server?
Thanks in advance..

Solution
Hi Jay Gomez,
I thing your Tape Library has been connected to Ext.Scsi Controller,So it is not distrup to you Existing Array configuration. don't worry you can proceed.
ie.
RAID1 : PUN0,PUN1
RAID5 : PUN2,PUN3,PUN4,PUN5
Ext.Scsi:Tape library.
insuch case library not detected pls. check the combination of IRQ(0~15)
If you want check functionality of Tap drive, could you download and installed the Tape driver utillity and check the performance of the drive.
Tape drive library utility download ulr:

Re: DL380 External SCSI (VHDCI) concern
Hi,
the external VHDCI connector is controlled by the Smart Array 5i controller. A Standalone tape drive is supported (as long as your internal drive cage is configured for simplex). Autoloaders and Libraries are NOT supported. For those devices you would need a separate PCI SCSI Controller.
Regards,
Stephen

Re: DL380 External SCSI (VHDCI) concern
Try to get optional SCSI controller 66/66 or 64/133 for all External non-Array devices
Try to keep split for bus load also it's recommended for not hot plug tape drive use regular SCSI cards
