DL380 G11 - 8SFF U.3 Premium - PM1743 NVMe SSD | IML NVMe Storage Status changed to Failed
Hello I have
HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen11 with 8SFF U.3 Premium Drive Cage Kit (P48814-B21)
And I have 8 Samsung NVMe Disks
https://semiconductor.samsung.com/us/ssd/enterprise-ssd/pm1743/mzwlo15thbla-00a07-00b07/
I connect these 8 disks on Box 3 directly to mainboard with NVMe Cable Kit (P48825-B21)
Connection Cable Look Like this
I want to use VROC but when I insert disks it show error in IML (Integrated Management Log)
It says NVMe Storage - Drive at Embedded:Port=XA:Box=X:BayX status changed to Failed
Event Class: x033, Event Code: 0x2
What is the problem?
Thanks

Re: DL380 G11 - 8SFF U.3 Premium - PM1743 NVMe SSD | IML NVMe Storage Status changed to Fa
Hi @canary ,
1) I assume, the nVMe disk drives is non-HPE branded (Samsung).
If yes, I am not sure on will the HPE Server BIOS/UEFI, Cage, Bay, RAID controllers etc. will support the Non-HPE branded drives?
2) Refer the quickspecs (Page no.35), bay will support nVMe drives or not.
Along with that, it has mentioned about fan kit as follows-
'If Qty3 is selected then High Performance Fan Kit (P48820-B21) must be selected.'

Re: DL380 G11 - 8SFF U.3 Premium - PM1743 NVMe SSD | IML NVMe Storage Status changed to Fa
I think, 'If Qty3 is selected then High Performance Fan Kit (P48820-B21) must be selected.' Required when 3 of them running, I just have one cage.
Yes, they are not HPe branded disks but I use Samsung SATA drives with my servers with raid controller, so why do we need HPe branded NVMe disks?
Also disks looks like workings well I got 30 GB/s read speeds. It just show Critical errors in ILO. nvme smart command says status OK.
I think there is firmware problem but I updated all firmwares. I don't have chance to replace disks so I am open for other solutions.
Thank you @shiva_jr

Hello @canary,
Thank you for your post.
Please let us know if there is any impact?
Are you able to access the data and those drives?
Also, please note : Non-HPE Hard Disk Drives may not work on ProLiant Servers because the Server's BIOS, ILO and Smart Array Controller Firmware may not detect a Non-HPE Hard Disk Drive or may not monitor the drive status because Non-HPE Hard Disk Drives will not have HPE firmware. As HPE has not tested those drives and HPE recommend to use HPE Drives for ProLiant servers.
Regards

Re: DL380 G11 - 8SFF U.3 Premium - PM1743 NVMe SSD | IML NVMe Storage Status changed to Fa
Thank you for your interest.
I can access data in disks, I didn't load or stress test but it seems work.
You are right disks are not running HPE firmware but other SATA or SAS disks also don't run HPE software but all brands can work with it.
All disks use same protocol U.3 NVMe, also samsung's chip (pm1743) is not rare one.
is also using Samsung's chip (PM1733a) so maybe one sofware or firmware update on server can fix this problem easly.
Best regards.

Hello @canary,
I understand. I can assist by providing the firmware for HPE hardware (disks); however, I cannot comment on Non-HPE drives.
