DL380 G4 CPU Question

Hello,

We just recieved an order from Insight.com for a DL380 G4. We ordered the server with two 3.4Ghz Xeon Processors each with 1MB of cache. The system we recieved came with one 3.4Ghz Xeon with 1MB of cache and a second 3.4Ghz Xeon CPU with 2MB of cache.

The system appears to be running fine but I want to know if this configuration is okay? This server will be used as a Production Back Office Solution.

Kyle:

You should really return the the 2MB cache CPU. It's better to keep the CPU's the same type/speed/cache even though they may work together. Your system could have weird instability issues and whatnot later on down the road.

What Back Office Product will you be installing on the server?

How much RAM?

Hard Disk Space?

How used will it be?

There are a lot of things to consider when sizing a server properly. These are just a few.

The back office solution is something that my company has written in the System Builder Environment of IBM UniData. The system has 4GB of RAM and is loaded up with 74gig ultra320 scsi drives in RAID-10.

It will do a lot of processing as our other server that this one will run along side is currently running on average of about 30-40% CPU load at any given time.

I was kind of thinking that we should pull out the CPU with 1MB of cache and put in a 2megger.
