DL380 G4 Server won't see 2nd SCSI drive in BIOS

My DL380 G4 Server is running Windows 2003, SP2. It will not see the 2nd SCSI Tape Drive in the OS or the BIOS. Device manager detects 1 drive but won't see the 2nd no matter which drive I put in or where I move it to. The server is using 2 pci-x scsi cards to connect to the drives which are in a brand new msl2024 Tape Library (LTO4). I'm updating firmware and ROM but still having no luck. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

The SCSI HBA must support LUN scanning!!

Do you see the robotics, in BIOS and device manager?

Do you have more than one DL380 G4 server connected to a MSL 2024, or is this related to your other topic with an almost identical name?

Same server (as other topic) yes...thanks.
I'm STILL working with HP to get this resolved but no one seems to have an answer/solution for me. NIGHTMARE.

HI: Could you elaborate on this please.
In Device Manager I see "Medium Changer, Multi-Function Adapter, and Tape Drive (only 1 HP LTO 4 drive showing up here). In the BIOS on boot up it shows the MSL G3 Series, 2 internal SCSI cards, and 1 tape drive, not 2. We have updated everything including BIOS but still nothing. I'm at a loss...

Re: DL380 G4 Server won't see 2nd SCSI drive in BIOS

Ahh ok.

Now you need to figure out wich SCSI adapter see a drive.

If SCSI HBA 1 see the robotics and a drive, the it support LUN scanning.

If SCSI HBA 1 see the robotics. And HBA 2 see a drive, the the HBA most likely don't support LUN scanning.

The HBA must support LUN scanning, since the Robotics get its ID through the Drive.
Default from drive 1, but you can change that from the gui.

What SCSI HBA do you use?

Re: DL380 G4 Server won't see 2nd SCSI drive in BIOS

I can't re-boot right now to see as the backup is active on 1 drive but I know it does LUN scanning because I see it running through that on boot. I know that HP went through and made the SCSI ID 3 and LUN - 1 (on the MSL 2024 Tape Library). On the Proliant DL380 the SCSI ID of the drives are 5. Does that help?

Re: DL380 G4 Server won't see 2nd SCSI drive in BIOS

I'm getting a bit confused.

But SCSI ID should be what it's set for.
both during POST and in the O/S

Try to do a reboot when possible.
You must see all 3 devices during POST.
