DL380 G5 - BSOD (Probably caused by : HpCISSs2.sys)

I have a problem with DL380 G5 that keeps crashing when under high I/O load. I've looked through the forums and this appears to be a known issue that's fixed by updating to latest storport.sys & support pack. I've done both of these and it's still crashing! I've listed the current versions below, does anyone know of another fix??? All drivers & firmware have been updated. The server is connected to a SAN using an HP HBA, also running latest drivers!

storeport.sys = 5.2.3790.4021 (KB932755)
HpCISSs2.sys = 6.8.0.32 (PSP 7.9)

I read that v7.7 of the PSP appears to solve the issue, does anyone know if this is compatible with the above storport.sys?

I've attached a debug log that shows "HpCISSs2.sys" as the probably cause.

Thanks in advance, Pete!

Sorry forgot to mention the OS, doh! It's runing M$ Server 2003 - SP2 with all latest critical updates. The main purpose of this box is to run Backup Exec, so very critical!

Hello Pete,

Refer:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c00608975

Yes, the latest ROM should have resolved this.
Please check again(just in case):
http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/locate/69_6213.html#1

Latest version is 26 Sep 07(updated after the advisory was published)

Re: DL380 G5 - BSOD (Probably caused by : HpCISSs2.sys)

Thanks for that, however all available updates for both drivers & ROM have been applied to all devices! I have down-graded the SAS drivers earlier to those supplied with PSP 7.7 and so far no BSOD.... I won't really know until tomorrow if the problem is fully resolved though!

Re: DL380 G5 - BSOD (Probably caused by : HpCISSs2.sys)

I have a similar issue.
The STOP message is:

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
STOP: 0x000000D1
Storport.sys

Two DL380 G5 systems in W2K3 Clulster (with SP2 and MS recommended post SP2 hotfixes for cluster servers http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935640), using two Emulex HBA's to connect to EVA5000 SAN. P400 Smart Array for Internal drives.
BIOS is P56 (06/28/2007).

I have this morning appled latest PSP (7.91A).
Got same BSOD message when servers were on SP1 and since putting on SP2 with the MS updates.

Not had BSOD yet since installing the hp PSP, but then again, I do not know the precise circumstances in which the fault occurs to be able to reproduce it.

Re: DL380 G5 - BSOD (Probably caused by : HpCISSs2.sys)

Just to let everyone know I've now resolved the problem with this server!!! It's been running since Friday without a single BSOD or Freeze... It turned out to be a faulty E200 Raid Controller (despite passing all hardware diagnostics), I swapped it out with a known good and all is well!

I can't even install Windows on the box that now has the faulty controller! (same problems, BSOD with HPCISSs2.sys or random freezing!)

I'm running W2k3 with SP2 and the lates PSP (7.91 I believe.)

Cheers for all your help!

Anyone else experiencing the same problems it may be worth swapping out the controller, it's a painless procedure that requires no extra configuration... (would be a good idea to ensure both are running same firmware prior though!!!)

Re: DL380 G5 - BSOD (Probably caused by : HpCISSs2.sys)

Good news that you have resolved your issue. My issue must be different as I don't have that controller in the server. However, I have found a more recent System ROM for the server - I currently have 28/6/2007; and I am going to update to 21/8/2007.
Fingers crossed.
