DL380 G5 PCI auxillary 6-pin power connection

I've got a customer with a DL380 G5 that we are trying to put a PCIe card in that requires auxillary power from a standard 6-pin power connector. However, there are no standard power cables in the machine to tap off of to get this power. Does HP have some solution for providing this power connection?

I'm trying to avoid coming up with our own custom solution.

Thanks.

Hi, what kind of PCI card are you trying to put in the server? Is it an HP branded or is it a 3rd party?
You heve a question... I have an aswer!!!

Never mind Chris, I just went to our Lab and took a 380 g5 apart and there is no auxiliary power connection, I checked in the system board, and in the PCI riser board and found nothing.

Sorry to be the bad news carrier.

Re: DL380 G5 PCI auxillary 6-pin power connection

This is a 3rd party DSP accelerator board. We've contacted HP via different channels and it appears there is not a canned solution for this (at least not yet). So an unsupported, custom solution will probably be the next step.

Thanks.

I'm trying to do the same thing. Is there any update to this thread that would point to a solution?

Are there other HP servers available with auxiliary power for additional 3rd party PCIe cards?

Thank You for any help.

Re: DL380 G5 PCI auxillary 6-pin power connection

Mr Ogle, you are out of luck until the G6 (which we have been unofficially told will support auxilliary power connections). However, the PCI slots on the riser board do support up to 75W each, even though they are only rated to 25W. This, however, is not officially supported by HP.

Good luck.

OK. So now I have to ask when will the G6 be on the market?
