We are in the early stages of re installing a DL380 G7 that is being moved into a new role within a client organisation. After migrating all data from the server we decided that installing the latest firmware update would be a worth while exercise as they hadn't been touched since originally installing the server around 3 years ago. All went fine except the SAS backplane firmware 1.18(C).
The update hung for several hours until being aborted and now we get 4 blue lightsdown one side of the drive bays, server only has the standard 8x SFF drive bays. Reapplying the same firmware has been tried many time but the best result is the blue lights changing sides (ie from teh left bank to the right bank). Most times however it just hangs indefinetly.
Is there any way to resolve this issue or am I going to need to replace the backplane. Drives seem to be indentified by the RAID controller, and the array is still valid and bootable (no data present that hasn't already been migrated) but do not get detected in the ILO status page.

Re: DL380 G7 Backplane half flashing blue after FW update
Hi,
This is a know (quite popular problem that was not fixed for years - apparently hp doesn't care about it):

Re: DL380 G7 Backplane half flashing blue after FW update
Oscar you are a life saver, I updated to 1.57 then applied the backplane firmware again and it succeeded, I did end up with no light at all on half the drive but unplugging from power for a minute or so resolved that. The time esitimate in the update manager was rather inacurate it allowed around two minutes but it took at least 10 to complete.
As a side not ilo3 fw 1.61 is not listed on the HP support page for this server but i have since found it and updated to it also
found the FTP links in another of your posts http://h30499.www3.hp.com/t5/ITRC-Remote-Lights-Out-Mgmt-iLO/ILO3-firmware-1-60-not-available/m-p/6160597#M7382
Thanks again

Re: DL380 G7 Backplane half flashing blue after FW update
Excellent news.
Before the 1.18C flash component starts upgrading the SAS backplane firmware, it sends to iLO a request to stop polling Drive Status data for a certain amount of minutes. We found a bug in iLO3 code that would make it restart the drive status polling sooner than what it should, causing the backplane firmware upgrade to fail. This was solved in iLO3 v1.57.
iLO3 1.61 will hit the web next week when the new SPP is released.
