DL380 Gen10 fans at 100% everyday
I have a DL380 Gen10 with the last SPP applied, which once a day, at the same time, the fans go up to 100% rotation for a few seconds and soon after it returns to the normal state. The server continues to function normally when this occurs. Is this situation normal and is it part of some configuration that I don't know about?
If anyone can help me I would be very grateful!

Re: DL380 Gen10 fans at 100% everyday
Hi BrunoCosta_OMB,
Generally, fans will run 100% when powered on and it is quite normal.
Fan speed will be more in some scenarios such as the server running more IO, disk utilization, workload on processors, blockage in air flow of fans etc.
1) Please get and analyze the report of Temperature, CPU, DISK, IO and Fan from iLO System information page.
2) Verify the fan airflow path is not blocked by cables or other material.
3) Make sure the iLO, SystemROM are updated properly to the latest version.
4) Check that the while booting, the POST error messages related to fan, temparature voilation, processor, heat sink errors visible.
Regards,

Re: DL380 Gen10 fans at 100% everyday
Hi!
Thanks for the reply.
Temperature, CPU, DISK, IO, Fan and others all ok as seen in the logs. Even CPU on average has 5% utilization according to our workloads.
What I found strange is that the fans only go up for a few seconds every day in approximately 5 minute increments. For example, on the 24th, the fans had this behavior at 01:00pm. On the 25th, it was at 01:05pm. And so consecutively.
As I've never witnessed this type of situation where nothing appears in the logs, I decided to look for some kind of information about.

Re: DL380 Gen10 fans at 100% everyday
If you checked the server logs and all hardware components are reporting normal temperatures, CPU utilization, and other metrics, and the issue persists, it's possible that there may be some other cause for the fans to spin up.
It could be that there is a scheduled task or process that is running at the same time every day and causing a temporary spike in CPU or disk activity, which in turn triggers the fans to spin up briefly.
Or a configuration setting in the BIOS or iLO that is causing the fans to behave this way. Check the fan profile settings in the BIOS or iLO to make sure they are configured correctly. Additionally, check if there are any firmware or driver updates available for your server that may address this issue.
If you still facing the same, I recommend contacting HPE support for further help.

Re: DL380 Gen10 fans at 100% everyday
I just upgraded my iLO 5 Firmware from 2.6 (Dec 2021 Firmware) to 3.10 (12 Dec 2024 Firmware) and it worked like a charm. My fan speed reduced to 23% (from always staying 100%).
Originally the problem started when I used an old 4TB HDD in Raid1 fashion. I still have the HDD in and after an hour the fan speed is at 65% - still better than 100% and I guess it will improve.
Thanks for everyone's contribution. Just paying it forward.
