dl380g5 and p400i controller

I have a 380g5 with a 2 disk raid 1 which has RHEL4U7 on it. I added 6x146G disks internally as a big raid 5, now the box wont boot. The raid controller shows the new raid5 as volume1, the OS raid 1 as volume2.

How can I boot off volume2?

Hi,

If you go into the servers bios (right after it initialises teh Drives it should go to another screen with "Server configured for Linux" you should have some options there, try F9.

Go into your Boot Order IPL and see if you can change it. If you need any further assistance you can drop me a mail at michael.obrien@hp.com

Re: dl380g5 and p400i controller

hi

I've seen that after creating a new RAID that RAID becomes Array A which controllers always use to boot from

so when creating a new RAID that RAID must be Array B but it becomes Array A so server is trying to boot from a RAID which has no OS installed maybe that's your issue

the workaround I know about that is kind of weird so usually people backup OS and rebuild the whole RAID 1 and RAID 5

bye

Re: dl380g5 and p400i controller

The solution I found is also kind of wierd but it worked.

First I deleted the raid5 = LV1
rebooted
400i BIOS says raid1 still = lv2
reboot Using the SmartStartCD
access 400i controller
break raid1 into two separate volumes, Lv1 and lv2
delete lv2
expand lv1's raid0 into a raid1
reboot
life is good again.
