DL385 G5p, VMware ESX and MSL2024

The question is similar to my previous post, except for the VMware ESX version.
Given a DL385 G5p running VMware ESX (the full featured version of VMware Virtual Infrastructure) how can VM be backed up on an MSL2024 Tape Library?
Can I install the requested software on the ESX server and/or on the Virtual Machines?
