DL385G2 & Firmware SmartUpdate 10.10
Hi All,
We have a number of Proliant DL385G2 servers we want to use as Linux servers, and want to updatre the firmware on these servers to the latest versions.
I downloaded the latest version (FW1010.2012_0530.49.iso), burned a DVD, and am trying to run the firmware update off-line. The system boots to the DVD, then allows me to select whether I want to do an automatic or interactive update. The system begins to boot, but then it errors out, falling to a shell prompt with the following error:
Warning!!! Unable to mount the filesystem
Dropping to a shell. Good luck!
/bin/ash: can't access tty: job control turned off
I really prefer to do an offline update, rather than installing an OS in order to do an online update.
Thanks!
Mark

Re: DL385G2 & Firmware SmartUpdate 10.10
Hi,
Sounds like the disk you made might be corrupt.
Try making it again with the SPP (not sure if the G2 is still 100% supported) or the Smartupdate DVD 9.30.
The USB boot works a lot faster and saves a DVD :)

Re: DL385G2 & Firmware SmartUpdate 10.10
Thanks, I believe that it was an incompatibility between the G2 and the latest FW iso.
The earlier version was able to take care of it, no problem. And you're right, the USB method is WAY faster.

Re: DL385G2 & Firmware SmartUpdate 10.10
I am having the very same symptoms:
Warning!!! Unable to mount the filesystem
Dropping to a shell. Good luck!
/bin/ash: can't access tty: job control turned off
when trying to use the same FW1010 on a Proliant DL385 G7.
Also, same problem when trying SPP2012060B on same G7.

Re: DL385G2 & Firmware SmartUpdate 10.10
Has anyone resolved this? I'm trying to install the 10.10 firmware on DL385G7 that has esxi4.1 getting "unable to mount file system" on it and the whole "Good Luck" when it drops me into the shell is annoying. I've tried a new download and two different cds. Burned with Nero.

Re: DL385G2 & Firmware SmartUpdate 10.10
Okay, just got done speaking with HP. They are aware of the issue - "level 3 engineering team is working on it" so I guess the next firmware release will supposedly resolve that. I'm currently going to update to 9.3.0 version (5/10/2011) since that is newer than what I have.
It's an issue with 385G7 and ESXi 4.1 installed. If you're installing ESXi4.1 on an HP server I would look for the HP ESXi bundle to install instead of the straight vmware esxi4.1 version, it contains the needed drivers from the get-go
Real quick example: with doing straight vmware esxi 4.1 download and install I have the issue where both of my NICs couldn't be in the server or I would get random PCI BUS errors. It doesn't matter which NIC and which slot. It simply can't handle both of them in at the same time... the HP bundle ESXi 4.1 solves that otherwise you're stucking doing driver updates here and there to get it all working.
Good luck all.

Re: DL385G2 & Firmware SmartUpdate 10.10
Hi all,
just download HP Smart Start Utility which enable you to burn your firmware image on either DVD or USB Flash
try it and send me your feedback if working

Re: DL385G2 & Firmware SmartUpdate 10.10
Using the USB utility was the way to go for me. I was even able to use the same ISO file to make the key.
