DL580 G4 Hangs on Boot after SP2 install

I have 2 DL580 G4s each with 4 processors, 10gb ram and 600gb memory. The servers work fin after the initial install of win2k3 enterprise and after the Proliant Service Pack 7.90.
However when I download and install SP2 bother machines hang mid way through the boot up just after the initial win2k3 splash screen.
I've no idea what's wrong here... any suggestions please?
