DL580 - memory riser accidentally put in PCI slot - wont boot
One of our junior engineers has accidentally fitted one of the dl580 G5 memory expansion riser boards with attached memory into one of the PCI slots (not quite sure how he managed to squeeze it in, but he did it nonetheless) then powered on the server. Suffice to say the server failed to power on via the ILO. Once the error had been established and the card removed (kept it out of the system completely for the moment), the once happy server now refuses to start at all ..see snippet...
hpiLO-> start /SYSTEM1
status=2
status_tag=COMMAND PROCESSING FAILED
error_tag=COMMAND ERROR-UNSPECIFIED
Failed to power on server.
There is nothing of note in show /system1/log1
My question is this. Is it possible that misplacing a card like this and then powering on the box would have caused permanent physical harm to the server ?

Re: DL580 - memory riser accidentally put in PCI slot - wont boot
I think powering it on would have only damaged the riser itself, or the memory on the riser, but not the whole system.

...
Doing such things will very likely damage something (by shortage etc).
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.
