DL580G4 w/ P800 SAS controllers locking up after installing Win2K3 SP2

Brand new DL580G4 server with SA P800 SAS controllers, server locks up after running Windows update w/ SP2. The initial install runs fine from SmartStart v7.90, PSP fully installed, then I run the SP2 update, after reboot, Windows locks up at the splash screen

Re: DL580G4 w/ P800 SAS controllers locking up after installing Win2K3 SP2

Upon using safe mode, it was determined that the new SA P800 controllers use ACPI controller extensively. Microsoft rewrote the Storport.sys file thus adversely affecting bootup. When safe mode is used, you'll notice that the server locks up after the ACPITABL.DAT. The work around this is, by default, the server is running with hyper-threading enabled and this works great w/ SP1. After applying SP2, ACPI calls are changed and the hardware doesn't recognize some. Disable hyper-threading in BIOS and the system runs fine. We will probably have to wait for Microsoft to rewrite some files in Service Pack 3.

hi

nice to know I mean I heard a lot of servers that hang at windows screen and/or in safe mode this ACPITABL.DAT is always stuck

well not all the servers have hyper-threading of course but can help us with that issue or giving us an idea about SP2

I am getting this exactly on my brand new DL580G5 w/P800 SAS controllers and SP2. I am working with support(MS) and will post back with any other recommendations they have for this issue.
