does not detect Western Digital IDE Hard Drive

I have a Proliant 850R that used to use SCSI drives. I wish to use IDE drives now but cannot get Smart Start to recognise it. All it see's is the CDROM. What am I doing wrong? Please Help!

the ide chain on our servers do not support hard drives..the only way to use ide is to put an IDE controller in the system as well
