Drive Status - Replace Drive?
We have a Proliant DL360 Win2K server at a data center offsite. Last night, received email from Compaq Insight Manager saying a drive needs to be replaced. In CIM's display for this server, it shows the drive in "degraded" status but SMART status is "OK". From that and the email, I don't understand the nature of the failure. Can anyone explain?
The email from CIM is this:
Event Name: Phy Drive Threshold Exceeded (Ver. 5)
Event originator: ausweb2
Event Severity: Critical
Event received: 10-Mar-2003, 18:05:34
Event description: Physical Drive Threshold Passed. This trap signifies that the agent has detected a factory threshold associated with one of the physical drive objects on a Compaq Drive Array has been exceeded.
User Action: Replace the physical drive.
Controller Slot Number: 0
Port: 2
Drive Bay: 1
Drive Model: COMPAQ BB01811C9C
Drive Firmware Revision: 3B05
Drive Serial Number: 3AK0CT0X00007014JSB6

Re: Drive Status - Replace Drive?
Hi Miriam,
There were reports of certain drives giving false alerts when they were really OK. This was caused by an older firmware. But from what I could find, your drive model is not affected. (from here http://h71025.www7.hp.com/support/reference_library/viewdocument.asp?countrycode=1000&prodid=5480&source=EX020805_CW01.xml&dt=3&docid=13036 )
You could always try to Rompaq the drive, but if it is at an offsite location, it might just be easier to replace the drive.
If you do want to Rompaq it, you can find everything here http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/storage/us/index.html
