Easiest way to get notifications from Smart Array
Ohayou!
What do I need to install to get e-mail notifications about non-working disks in arrays and failures? Just get events in Windows Event Viewer is ok too.
I have:
- Hyper-V Server 2012 R2 on DL360 G5 with Smart Array P400i Controller
- Windows Server 2012 R2 on DL360 Gen9 with Smart Array P440ar Controller
Both have only Smart Storage Administrator 3.30.14.0 installed (CLI version for Hyper-V) and it works fine.
I tried to install Smart Array SAS/SATA Controller Driver for Windows Server 2012 x64 Edition 62.28.0.64 (cp028045 and cp020624) and Smart Array SAS/SATA Event Notification Service for 64-bit Windows Server Editions 6.46.0.64 (cp030137 and cp034046). And there are errors (on both servers):
The software will not be installed on this system because the required hardware is not present in the system or the software/firmware doesn't apply to this system.
or
The software is not supported for installation on this system.
The HP Smart Array SAS/SATA Controller Driver was not installed. Please install this driver and run the installation program again.
The main problem is - I don't want to install all SPP. I don't need SIM or SMH or another management agent. I just want minimum installation to get notifications if something happens with disks or arrays. How do get this? What drivers should I install? Thanks for your help!

Re: Easiest way to get notifications from Smart Array
Hi there,
Greetings!
Please find the answers to your queries:
1. Windows Server 2012 R2 on DL360 Gen9 with Smart Array P440ar Controller
A. Smart Storage Administrator 3.30.14.0 and Smart Array SAS/SATA Event Notification Service for 64-bit Windows Server Editions 6.46.0.64 are the latest versions available.
But Smart Array SAS/SATA Controller Driver for Windows Server 2012 x64 Edition 62.28.0.64 is an obsolete version which would be the reason for the shared errors to pop-up during the installation of the mentioned files.
If the p440ar controller firmware is updated to the later version then kindly update the driver to the latest version available i.e., 100.20.0.64(A) : https://support.hpe.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=7252838&swItemId=MTX_cb822f1666a0472d82c6145b4a&swEnvOid=4184#tab3
If not then kindly share the current p440ar controller firmware version.
2. Hyper-V Server 2012 R2 on DL360 G5 with Smart Array P400i Controller
A. As per HPE, Windows 2012 is not supported by a DL380 G5 server.
Please refer to the OS compatibility matrix link where it mentions the supported HPE servers for Windows 2012 R2 : http://h17007.www1.hpe.com/us/en/enterprise/servers/supportmatrix/windows.aspx#.W6NDd-hLiM8
Hence you may proceed with the mentioned steps (for DL360 Gen9 server) on the DL360 G5 but this might or might not work.
Please feel free to get back if any further concerns.
Regards,
Shruthi
