Error 162 on boot, 3rd try
I am posting this message again in the hope that I can get some answers here. The first 2 tries didn't. When the system boots, I get the error: error 162: system options not set press F1 to ... or F10 to ....
The manual says to go into System Configuration Utility (SCU) and run the setup again. I do this and the SCU complains about illegal configuration. I choose automatic configuration and save changes. But when the system boots, I get this message again.
Pressing F1 continues with the booting and things are okay till I reboot the system again. Then it gets stuck at the 162 .... prompt and never boots the OS.
The hardware configuration is as follows:
1) Memory: 256 MB, ECC
2) HD: Compaq Ultra Wide SCSI Controller (on slot 1) with 1 scsi HD
3) NIC: 1 DLink 10/100 adapter
4) CDROM: ATAPI
Please help.

Re: Error 162 on boot, 3rd try
The problem may be with the 3rd party hardware , not being able to be configured properly in the system . Try removing the non-Compaq devices , run the system configuration utility (do not allow to automatically configure) after configuring compaq hardware only , then try adding the non-Compaq hardware pieces one at a time .
