eSATA PCI-X card installation on HP DL 360 G7 ?
Hi All,
I've just bought 2 eSATA 2 SATA RAID PCI PCI-E Express Card Sil3132 from: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/PCI-e-PCI-express-to-eSATA-SATA-RAID-Sil3132-3132-controller-Card-Adapter-/221256450796
and I've attached it successfully to my HP Proliant DL 360 G7 but the problem is that I cannot see the eSATA HDD in my external casing on my VMware ESXi ?
Do I need to plug any SATA cable from the card to any available SATA connector in DL 360 G7 motherboard ?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Re: eSATA PCI-X card installation on HP DL 360 G7 ?
It is always a problem to install and use unsupported hardware ...
The card is a controller, so you cannot daisy chain it to another controller.
Most likely the OS does not support the adapter, hence you cannot see/use it.
First google hit:
https://communities.vmware.com/thread/399476?start=0&tstart=0
IMHO it would be better to expand the capacity with "something" supported, like an used MSA60 or MSA70.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: eSATA PCI-X card installation on HP DL 360 G7 ?
I can see the card BIOS is recognised during the POST.
Now I wonder if u have to plug SATA cable from the motherboard to the PCI-X card or not needed ?
Because I don't know where can I plug it in to the connector in DL 360 G7 motherboard. Is it SATA or SAS with SATA cable converter needed.

Re: eSATA PCI-X card installation on HP DL 360 G7 ?
>> How did OU know if it is unsupported ?
It is not listed in the server quickspecs, for the servers point of view.
The quickspec lists all the supported hardware for the server. not listed = not supported.
But this is not the problem here.
The more important point is if it is supported by vmware. Please investigate this.
Since the card is a controller (not a kind of expander), the data flows thru the PCIe connection, so no internal connection to another controller is needed at all. If there are internal connectors on the card, they are for other internal disks.
As said, it looks like VMWare cannot play with your equipment ...
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: eSATA PCI-X card installation on HP DL 360 G7 ?
Ah I see,
I'll try to find some other driver to make it working.
You are right, From the picture below there are:
Two internal SATA II connectors
Two external eSATA connectors
