Everything wrong with Proliant Gen10 Servers
Am I the only one who feels that the newer Proliant servers ( Gen 10) are not as reliable as they used to be? Please answer me if you think I'm wrong (or right...) but I notice so many, sometimes stupid errors that I think they must have outsourced their development team to another company.
1. iLO firmware update must be done in several small steps, at least up to 1.45. Newer had that problem with previous generations.
2. RAM socket numbering has been messed up completely. The numbering order on the board does not match the information on the server cover. And even worse, the information on the cover is also wrong and has been pasted over with a sticker that tells you to "look on the HPE website"
3. Why is there a "Gen10 plus" generation and no Gen11?
4. Intelligent Provisioning has many errors. For example if you want to test your hardware, you can choose between "short test" and "short test"...
...and so on. Please let me know about additional problems you encountered

Re: Everything wrong with Proliant Gen10 Servers
Hello,
Firmware updates may contain critical updates, fixes which are not of ciritical nature but may be done on convenience, and enhancements to components functionality. Hence the number of firmware updates made available. It may not be concluded that there would be fundamentally wrong with the product.
In case of any discrepancies, please contact HPE Support and report this issue so that it could be addressed at the level of all servers being manufactured.
HPE ProLiant RL300 Gen11 server has been introduced by HPE recently.
Regards,
I work at HPE

I do not criticise the firmware updates in general. But until Gen10 it was possible to update iLO from the oldest version directly to the newest without inbetween steps.
The bare fact that a server with iLO firmware 1.30 must be updated to 1.35 then 1.45 and then to 2.71 (newest) is a sign that something went wrong in the programming.
Even worse is the fact that the error message you get (in case you take the wrong version) is "Invalid file signature...."
The whole firmware especially Intell.Provis. looks like it has never been tested properly before it went to the customer. We call this a Banana Product because it ripes at the customer. (...but leaves the factory green)
