Expected lifespan of servers?
I'm looking for information on the expected lifespan of the ProLiant 2500 server. While there are a number of variables that can affect the lifespan, I need an estimated figure for "normal usage" (as a file/print or Exchange server) to report back to management - does anyone have any resources or estimates for this?
My company has had several of these models in place since 1997 on a lease basis, and we're anticipating upgrades this year for implementing Win2000. It would be useful to have life cycle estimates on hand, so we can decide whether to keep the servers or not (ie. move them to application server duty).
Any assistance would be muchly appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike Hutchison

Re: Expected lifespan of servers?
I can not provide an effective "life cycle" estimate. In truth, many of our servers last far beyond their "useful life" (such as old SystemPros from 1989/90 that still work fine).
Basically, if the system still works fine and still meets your needs, it's life cycle isn't done yet. If it either becomes too slow or unreliable - it's time to look for a replacement.
