Failed HPE Smart Array P408i-a SR Gen10
Hello Guys,
We have a failure in one of our DL380 Gen 10 servers.
Here’s a detailed order of things that happen that led to this error:
- A waring appeared on disk 3 (3rd disk of the 8 total disks available)
Note:
Disks 1 & 2 are used for OS (RAID 1)
Disks 3 till 8 are used for data (RAID5) - Once the warning on disk 3 appeared, the performance of the VMs using those disks was hugely affected. We couldn’t even open RDP sessions.
- We restored the latest VM backups to the second Hyper-V host to resume our business operation
- Replaced the defective drive 3, but the rebuild process was extremely slow as well (almost 2 hours to complete around 1%)
- During that time, I went through the ILO Information tab > Overview > Generate NMI
- After this step, the controller displayed the following error in the HPE SSA:
- And both logical drives OS & Data were no longer accessible with the following Warning:
Warning: Logical drive status: The logical drive is not yet available.
Here's a link to the SSA Disgnostic report if it helps:

Of course, I can format the server but is there any smarter/faster way to recover from this failure?
And most importantly what caused the performance to be extremely slow while one disk failed in the RAID5 configuration?
