Finding HDD's

I have a Proliant 4000 using a Fast SCSI 2 Controller. I have the drive bay plugged into the J1 plug on the Controller but when I run the Smart Start and run through the configuration I get the following message.

Smart Star cannot continue because there are no physical or logical disks on the primary controller

Error Code: 59

Only the CD-ROM is using the onboard controller.

The 32 Bit Fast SCSI 2 Controller is Part # 142040-001

My HDD's Light up on boot up.

What connector on the backplane is connected to the controller (should be the LOWER connector)? Do you have the hard disks installed from the bottom to the top (assuming a tower model server and storage system)? What type/brand of drives are installed and are the trays from Compaq?
