Hi all,
in a few months my warranty will be expired. I do not want to buy additional support coverage. So, I want to build a new server with my existing parts from my ml110.
Parts to be used:
CPU. (intel xeon silver 4208)
RAM (HPE 16GB 1Rx4 PC4-2933Y-R Smart Kit , HPE 32GB 2Rx4 PC4-2933Y-R Smart Kit)
HDD (HPE 4TB SATA 7.2K LFF RW HDD)
RAID Card (HPE Smart Array P408i-p SR Gen10 (doubed about this?))
Parts to buy:
Motherboard (ASUS Pro WS C621-64L Sage/10G Intel C621 Lga3647)
Case (Lian Li Lancool II - X Black)
PSU (Corsair RM750)
Is it fine to transfer this CPU and other parts to a new motherboard?

Re: Frankenstein server out of ml110 gen10 server
Just because the warranty expires does not mean the machine will up and die. You appear to be contemplating a gross mistake.
Just run with what you have rather than losing all those HP bells and whistles you paid extra for when you bought it. If you are worried about it dying and losing valuable work/time/karma, then consider that the warranty is paying for peace-of-mind for the most part. (It makes C-class' happy and bean counters unhappy unless you really need it for a critical failure.)

Re: Frankenstein server out of ml110 gen10 server
Hello,
HPE does not support third party system boards. We would suggest you to please renew your warranty for the server.
Regards.

SolutionI see. Well, if you persist in this madness, that is your choice.
Yes, you can use the CPU, memory, HDD and raid card. the "i" means pci-e, you may need a special cable to connect the drives though.
You don't get the full x64 glory with that CPU, it has only 48 pcie lanes I think.
The case I am not too sure about, ugliness aside though, I think it will work however the position of screw holes between E-ATX (case) and mb (CEB) might be different. But you already have a perfectly good case right there, even has a motherboard and all that stuff already in it.
Note, you will end up with an RFI beast. There's a reason servers have metal in them them, not glass.
ASMB9-iKVM (on-board) sounds interesting and I look forward to hearing how it compares to ILO.
Now does that answer your question?

Thanks for your answer.
"You don't get the full x64 glory with that CPU, it has only 48 pcie lanes I think."
yes you are right. I notice that unless if the cpu is not Intel W-3200 processor. I am ok with my current setup.
"I think it will work however the position of screw holes between E-ATX (case) and mb (CEB) might be different."
I checked that also and I figured out that it is good to go.
"ASMB9-iKVM (on-board) sounds interesting and I look forward to hearing how it compares to ILO."
I'm also wondering about that too
Even though you wrote everything I wanted to hear, I still hasitate to proceed.
thanks again...
