We have an ML350 G5 and want to replace the drives. We are looking at 2 15k RPM SAS drives with 2 7200RPM SAS drives. Can we put the drives in the hot swap caddy together even though they have different speeds?

SolutionYou can run different speed drives on the same array controller, however the slower speed will take priority, ie all drives will run at 7.2k.
Same thing happens when you mix interface speeds, ie 3G and 6G
.

Re: Hard Drives with Different Speeds in same server
Not really, but the faster drives will have to wait for the slower drives, so expect a lower overall performance (if you mix them).
Keep in mind you cannot/should not mix different drive technologies in the same raid group.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.
