Help and Support missing

Hi

Help and support is missing from Windows 2003 R2 HP Server.

It does not show in services either.

I tried reinstalling froma command line but with no success.

Any ideas fully appreciated.

The 'Help and Support' Center service is missing.

Hi Jeff,

I assume that when you say you reinstalled you did the following:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/937055

The problem is a Microsoft issue not an HP hardware or HP software issue so you should probably try the Microsoft Server 2003 forums. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/category/windowsserver

Re: Help and Support missing

I've run across the same problem on many Windows 2003 servers (and sometimes XP boxes) over time: You are in the Event Viewer and click on a link for Windows Support in a particular Event ID window and get "Windows cannot open Help and Support because a system service is not running." It says to fix the problem, start the service named 'Help and Support' but the service does not show up.

To fix this issue, try this:

1. Open a command prompt.
2. Navigate to %windir%\PCHealth\HelpCtr\Binaries
3. Run "start /w helpsvc /svchost netsvcs /regserver /install"

4. Once this command completes the Help and Support service should now appear in services.msc
5. Start the Help and Support service.

Re: Help and Support missing

Thanks Brandi, that is exactly the issue i'm talking about.

However, i'm sure that the command line you mentioned is the one I used and it didn't work.

Will try again.
