Help installing second NIC
Hello,
I am somewhat new to Compaq but I am supporting a Compaq Proliant 3000 and I have to dual-home it. The problem is that when I install the second NIC (a Kingston KNE100), while the system is booting, everything looks good, i.e. the link light on the hub and the NIC is lit. But as soon as NT gets booted and presents me with the logon box, the NIC goes into spastic mode and seems to be broadcasting non-stop, which disrupts the network. I have gone into the system setup (F10 at boot) and let it detect the new card and everything looks good. Also, in NT, I installed the drivers with no problem and the device is listed as "Started". I have tried switching the PCI slot but that only resulted in a conflict with COM 2. Is there some Compaq utility that I should be using to correctly install this NIC or is there something else that I am missing?
I also got the exact same behavior when I removed the Kingston and installed a Netgear 10/100....
Thanks in advance,
Earle

My first question would be is the Hub you're connecting to a autosensing 10/100 or just a 10mb hub. It sounds to me that there is and issue with the port on the hub.

Re: Help installing second NIC
Thanks for the input. I actually resolved the issue finally. This was the process: Upgrade BIOS, Upgrade System Configuration Utility, Install NIC (In PCI slot 1 or 7 only), boot machine and run latest SSD and install the drivers through SSD - I gave up on 3rd party and used a Compaq NIC. After that process, the nic works great - except for the caveats that I have discovered about running DHCP, WINS, and VPN on a dual homed PDC. This has truly been a learning experience but I am a better tech for it...
Once again, thanks for the response to my problem,
Earle
