host channel defaulted to -1
After a reboot, one volume on the shared storage could not be seen anymore. When using the CR3500 manager, I saw that the volume's host channel had defaulted to -1 ! I've changed this to 2 (the only choice which was accepted). I've rebooted the server, removed the second 3500 controller but sadly, the error remained.
Now I've changed the setting again and I've booted just one system. For now, the volume is back again.... However, I still don't know why this problem appeared. The system is still in use for testing but I'm very reluctant to start migrating 200 users to it. Can somebody please explain what could have caused this problem and how I can make sure that the current settings are correct ?
In another thread I read about someone who had the same kind of problem; it appeared to be hardware related. Here, the HD's themselves seem to work just fine and no data appears to have been lost.
The shared storage contains 2 logical volumes:
vol1: 2 9G HD's in RAID1
vol2: 3 36G HD's in RAID 5
one 36G hot spare.
the problem with vol2 disappearing has happened before a couple of months ago. Then, I thought it had possibly something to do with diskeeper defragging the volume (diskeeper hasn't been installed now).
regards,
Wanne.
