How to backup OS and Applications from HP Proliant ML110
Is it possible to use the bootable CD of Norton Ghost to boot the server and then do a Ghost copy of the drives of the server. I did some attempts but Norton Ghost is looking for drive A but this server does not have a floppy drive.
Any workaround/suggestions? Basically, I need a full OS backup so that if the hard disk crashes, I can purchse a new hard disk and just restore the backup. My server is running on Windows Server 2003 R2 x64 Edition.
Thanks
Carlou

Re: How to backup OS and Applications from HP Proliant ML110
I will recommend HP StorageWorks One-Button Disaster Recovery Solution (OBDR).
Refer:
http://h18006.www1.hp.com/products/storageworks/drs/summary.html
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/tape/OBDR/Compatibility_Matrices.pdf
You have not mentioned the generation of the ML110 Server. OBDR is possible with G4.
You will see many other options in the matrices that may be used.
Cheers !

There is no mention of using a Floppy disk drive(for taking a backup); So if ur setup is asking one.... check local settings.

Re: How to backup OS and Applications from HP Proliant ML110
Yes I also find its unusual why Norton Ghost is looking for Drive A at the end of the backup. Apparently, the version of Norton Ghost Iâ m using is V8 as this is only the version that I have a bootable disk. What I did is boot form the CD so that no services are started from the server. Then launch Norton Ghost and make a backup of the whole disk. I even tried cloning the disk but at the end of the process, Norton Ghost is looking for drive A. Anyway, Iâ ll simulate the process again and will find out how to do it.
Just a quick question, can OBDR make a full OS backup. I mean does it has a facility to boot from a CD and backup from there. I donâ t want the OS to be running dhring the backup if possible.
By the way, the generation of my server is G4.
Many thanks
Carlou

Re: How to backup OS and Applications from HP Proliant ML110
OBDR has nothing to do with a CD.
U need to have a internal tape drive which is OBDR compatible + a back up software like veritas or Data Protector Express.
This will take an ENTIRE image of the server(including os, application + data files)
no sweat !
cheers !
