My business partner hired contractors to install 100G NICs in their Proliant DL325 Gen10 servers., specifically HPE 842QSFP28 Adapters.
I'm 100% remote, and when I access the HPE ILO 5 , I can see the cards, but I cannot see or edit their mode - infiniband or eithernet. The entire first page NIC settings is grayed out, as per the attached image.
I went to BIOS-System Configuration, clicked on the NIC to enter it's settings screen.
2 Questions -
1 - how to unlock the greyed out settings?
2 - how to view and/or change the NIC mode to make sure it is Ethernet and not Infiniband?
Thanks in advance.

SolutionHi
Looking at quickspec and that this card looks to be the Ethernet version only. No IB support hence the name, HPE Ethernet 100Gb 1p 842QSP28.

What HPE part number do you have?
HPE Part Number Mellanox Ethernet Only Adapters PSID 874253-B21 HPE Ethernet 100Gb 1-port 842QSFP28 Adapter HPE0000000014
You can also find the support info here for this card with software, firmware, advisories.
If you have RHEL install you can check using steps here:

Re: How to configure HPE 842QSFP28 Adapter for Ethernet vs Infiniband
Which number do I use to look it up? From the ILO inventory page, it has this info for the card.
SKU: 874251-001
Part Number 877697-001
The customer told me that they connected it to the switch with an LC SFP module. My plan is to check compatibilty of the NIC with that SFP module. I'm going on the assumption that their side ( the switch) is configured correctly until I determine that it isn't.
Thanks!

Re: How to configure HPE 842QSFP28 Adapter for Ethernet vs Infiniband
The ILO uses the spare part numbers, so if you look up 877697-001 in the HPE Support Center it will lead you to the spare parts list for the product.

Re: Query: How to configure HPE 842QSFP28 Adapter for Ethernet vs Infiniband
Marked as solved. The "link down" issue that I was troubleshooting turned out to be an issue with the SFP module reporting that it needed 6W of power when it only needed 3W. The NIC cannot provide that much power, so it showed the link as down. I got the SFP vendor to update the firmware which resolved the issue.
