How to connect a modem to a blade BL20P G3?

My customer wants to connect a modem RC 56k to a blade BL20P G3. I've been told that we can not connect it via the IO port in the front. Is there any workaround?

Re: How to connect a modem to a blade BL20P G3?

Sorry, no workaround. Blades do not have a serial port. There is an I/O cable with two USB ports, one video port, one iLO port and kernel debug port. The cable was specifically designed to aid in initial server image deployment.
So it's not for attaching modems.

You would need a server that has a serial port (e.g. DL140)

Re: How to connect a modem to a blade BL20P G3?

The 'SUVI' cable (serial, USB, video, iLO) does provide a serial port but its connector is not intended to be attached for anything other than a temporary basis.

The best solution would be to use a LAN/Modem gateway and set up a VLAN using one of the 4 network interfaces on the BL20pG3.

Hello,

How about USB modem? I have not tried this but maybe it's a solution.

To have serial ports on blades I use ethernet-to-serial converters, like http://www.moxa.com/Product/NPort_DE-211.htm
