How to disable EMS option?
I have a ols Compaq ML370 Server, I planned to use this server for all the system recovery like Symantec Backup System recovery (BESR) and normal System state ntbackup recovery.
I got an error while I restored the server using BESR, the Error is "EMS connection has been detected" while I googled some with respect to the error, most replies are to disable EMS option from RILO Bios utility, where I don't have a RILO card (built-in or add on) and I am confused now. Also I trying to enter in the BIOS utility of Mother board where I tried hitting F1, F2, F10, and delete during startup but couldn't able to enter in to BIOS utility to check for any EMS option available there. can anye one help me in this?

Re: How to disable EMS option?
At least from ML370 G2 to current versions, the boot sequence is like this:
- The first step is memory test
- Then iLO, SmartArray and netboot-enabled NICs (if any) and FibreChannel HBAs (if any) are initialized. At this point, if the option has any configurable settings of its own, you can press F8 to access the configuration settings _while the correct card is initializing_.
In other words, when iLO is printing out its initialization settings, pressing F8 will allow you to access iLO IP address and other settings. When SmartArray is spinning up disks and detecting the RAID configuration, pressing F8 will allow you to change SmartArray settings.
- After all the option ROMs have done their initialization, the screen will clear and at the top of the screen there will be a few lines of text, indicating "press F9 to access BIOS settings". To access the system BIOS, you must press F9 _at this point_; pressing it earlier may not work.

Re: How to disable EMS option?
I find very difficult to find the generation of my old COmpaq server may be it has been vanished, the server was used before I join this company. and also I tried to download the utility you had mentioed and failed with page cannot be displayed error.
Hi Matti,
The first step is correct - the memory test performs check successfully,
The 2nd step is to the Array controller and not to ILO, I assure you that I don't have a ILO card. after the I am getting F10 for system partition utilities. I cannot able to find a line saying press F9 to enter BIOS options, I tried hitting F9 also while POST.

Re: How to disable EMS option?
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp19501-20000/sp19619.exe
-----------------
Installation:
Obtain four (4) formatted 1.44-MB diskettes.
Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard drive and change to that directory. The file that is downloaded is an executable with a filename based on the SoftPaq Number.
3 From that drive and directory, execute the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions. The following files will be created:
qrst5.exe
174496xx._01
174496xx._02
174496xx._03
174496xx._04
readme.1st
Where "xx" is US (English),SP (Spanish),IT (Italian), FR (French),GR (German), or JP (Japanese).
Run qrst5.exe to create the diskettes.
After the diskettes have been created, you may delete the SoftPaq previously downloaded file and all files generated.
To run the Compaq System Configuration Utility, power down your computer, place the Compaq System Configuration Utility diskette 1 in Drive A:, and power up your computer.
