How to eject backup tape?

When pressing the eject button or trying to eject the tape through BackupExec does not work, how do I safely remove the tape? I remember something about ejecting the tape with some button press when connecting the whole backup tape drive while the server is booting; however, I don't remember exactly those procedures.

First you need to supply more technical information in here. What make/model/version of tape drive and/or Backup Exec are you using?

Where is the tape drive mounted, internal or external? What server model? O/S?

Many thanks for the help. I got the tape out now buy pressing the eject button while the server is booting up.
