How to remove S100i SR controller from SSA

I started with S100i SR controller and one 240 GB logical drive in RAID 1. Recently I replaced the discs with two new 960 GB SSD's and moved the cables to a new P408i-p SR controller. Since the metadata are on the discs the logical drive, which also is the system disk was found on the new controller during boot.

In a second stage I was able to extend the logical drive to recover the unused space on the new drives thorugh SSA CLI, which could only be done on the hardware controller. Then I could extend C:\ in disk manager in Windows.

Now there is no drives on the embedded S100i SR controller and it then throw warning 267 => No physical drives on the controller.

How can I get rid of the S100i SR controller firmware etc. to stop it from showing up in HPE SSA with the warnings?

Re: How to remove S100i SR controller from SSA

Dear Storberg

As per your given information, earlier you have 2HDD with 240GB and configured as RAID1. and now you want to configure Newly installed P410i controller with 960GB HDD. So, at first you have to clear old configurations from SSA or Reset the server from intelligent Provisioning, or delet VD by reinstalling 240GB HDD and connect S100i controller. once the old configuration removed or Server re set, you can configure and activly use new VD of 960GB HDD with P410i controller.

Hope, I could provide you with clear and helpful instructions. If you have any more questions or need further assistance, don't hesitate to ask. I'm here to help!

Have a great day!!

Re: How to remove S100i SR controller from SSA

You can try:

Press F9.
Select System Configuration > BIOS/Platform Configuration (RBSU) > System Options > Storage Options > SATA Controller options, and then press Enter.
Select HPE Smart Array SW RAID Support, and then choose Disable from the drop-down menu.
To save the selection, press F10.
To save the changes, press Yes-Save Changes.
To exit, press F12: Save and Exit.

and also

Select System Configuration> Embedded Storage : HPE SR100i Gen10+ SW RAID> Configure Controller Settings> Configure Controller Settings> Clear Configuration.
In the Clear Configuration screen, select one of the following options:
Delete All Array Configurations - selecting this option resets the configuration to its default state. Existing arrays or logical drives will be deleted, and any data on the logical drives will be deleted.
Delete configuration metadata on all physical drives - deletes controller configuration metadata on all physical drives that are not part of an array.
Select Submit Changes to save the option.

Otherwise, just ignore it.

Re: How to remove S100i SR controller from SSA

Well, I originally had 240 GB disks attached to the S100i SR and replaced them with 960 GB disks one by one and allowed them to mirror. This worked fine except that most of the new disk space couldn't be utilized (as expected) since drive extend commands in CLI is not supported on the embedded controller.

In next stage I hooked off both mini-SAS connectors to the drive cage from the motherboard and instead connected them into the new P408i-p SR board. Then I rebooted the ML110 G10 server and the logical drive was found by the new storage controller, since most if not all configuration is stored on the drives.

Then I entered "controller slot=3 logicaldrive 1 modify size=max" on the SSA CLI which enabled the remaining space for use on the new drives. I had then to use the FDISK command in Windows to disabe and remove the recovery partition to only have unallocated space to right of the logical C: drive. Then I could extend C.: except 1 GB and finally I made a new recovery partion on the logical drive.

Finally I have a much larger logical drive on a new controller and a working operating system with all applications.

So the only problem is the annoying warning: "267 There are no configurable physical drives attached to the current controller."

I guess I have to just ignore it...

Re: How to remove S100i SR controller from SSA

First I was a bit afraid to use F9 and disable HPE Smart Array SW RAID Support in Bios not to lose a bootable drive, but then i thought about what it is really meaning, it is just software RAID support, not hardware, so I did it and it solved the problem.

Now I only have the P408i‑p SR controller in SSA and no more annoying warnings!

Thanks / Bengt
