I have a potential need to (temporarily) relocate an MSA30 & SCSI card from a DL380 G4 to a DL380 G5 (for the purposes of speedy migration of data from MSA30 to MSA2000 FC storage on the G5 box) with least amount of downtime.
In researching the U320 compatibility I've found that it can be installed in the G5 as long as it has the mixed riser cage.
Is there a way of determining whether the cage is installed without opening the box?
The FC cards are apparently installed in slots 3&4 (going by the HP System Management Homepage info) and are PCI-e.
I'm about 100 miles away from the Datacentre so unable to gain speedy access just yet!
Regards,
Paul

SolutionTry to check the system management homepage.
Some facts:
Embedded PCIe slots
Slot 1 x4 PCIe Bus 6 device 0
slot 2 x4 PCIe Bus 11 device 0
PCIe riser
Slot 3 4x PCIe Bus 14 device 0
Slot 4 8x PCIe Bus 23 device 0
Slot 5 8x PCIe Bus 19 device 0
PCIe/PCI-X riser
Slot 3 x8 PCIe Bus 23 device 0
Slot 4 64-bit/133MHz PCI-X Bus 18 device 1
Slot 5 64-bit/133MHz PCI-X Bus 18 device 2
So if you've got PCIe in slot 3 and 4, then it must be a PCIe riser.

Re: How to tell if "PCI-X/PCI-E Mixed Riser Cage" is installed in DL380 G5
PCI Express Slot 1 x4 HP Smart Array P400 Controller
PCI Express Slot 2 x4 (Empty)
PCI Express Slot 3 x4 Serial bus controller - Fibre Channel
PCI Express Slot 4 x8 Serial bus controller - Fibre Channel
PCI Express Slot 5 x8 (Empty)
Would that then confirm that this is a "standard" riser rather than the PCI-x/e version?
(I really do need to get back up to speed on the whole PCI-x/e differences!)

Re: How to tell if "PCI-X/PCI-E Mixed Riser Cage" is installed in DL380 G5
Not sure if you were able to interpret the answer you got, but yes, your cage is the non-mixed cage, you have only PCIe slots, no PCI-X slots.
You can use the following SCSI interface to connnect to the MSA:
412911-B21: HP SC11Xe Host Bus Adapter
Good luck.
