HP DL 580 G7 with 6 quadport Qlogic HBAs
Hello,
we want to replace our old DATACORE Storage-Domain-Servers (HP Proliant DL 580 G3/G4) with new HP Proliant DL 580 G7. Each of the new servers has 6 quad-port FC-HBAs (QLE2564). When the server starts up it shows a warning on the boot screen saying something like "there may be not enough io-resources". When we pull out one of the HBAs this warning does not appear but in the FastUtil of Qlogic only 16 ports of 20 are shown.
What is the maximum number of fc-hbas that can be built into a server? What are your experiences?
Regards Burkhard

Re: HP DL 580 G7 with 6 quadport Qlogic HBAs
Hello,
in the meantime we got the servers installed with DC-SSY7. We reduced the number of FC-HBAs to 4 quad-port cards per server. The first tries with 6 quad-port cards were not successful because two of the ports in slot 11 of the HP-DL580 G7 of the did not get any io-reosuces (Memory, IRQ) from the OS even when we reduced to 4 quad-port cards. The solution in this case was to leave the slot 11 and move the card to slot 6. We did not test to populate other slots than those 6 with "PCI-E 2.0 x8", it may be possible to build in all the six cards we wanted first. But we decided to put the system to production with 4 fc-hba-cards built-in.
