HP DL380 G4 memory question
I have a HP DL380 G4 server with a P51 bios version. I am trying to upgrade it with 12GB of ram in the following way:
DIMM1 2GB
DIMM2 2GB
DIMM3 2GB
DIMM4 2GB
DIMM5 2GB
DIMM6 2GB
When I pass 8GB of ram (Using DIMM 1-4), the server beeps and won't boot.
Any help would be apprenticed,
Ronen.

Re: HP DL380 G4 memory question
Are all of the memory modules the same specification ?
If some are single rank, and some are dual rank then you are limited to how they can be installed, as shown in the QuickSpecs here:
http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/12028_div/12028_div.HTML#Memory
Hope this helps,
Regards,
Rob

Re: HP DL380 G4 memory question
I would believe that you have the Correct DIMM types. Going further, Once you populate the LAST 2 slots, BANK C; they are taken as the SPARE Memory;
In the online spare configuration, the ROM automatically configures the last populated bank as the spare memory. If only banks A and B are populated, bank B is the spare bank. If banks A, B, and C are populated, bank C is the spare bank, "Online spare memory is configured through RBSU".
Within RBSU, select Advanced Memory Protection from the Main Menu.
TY007, Since the Server wont Boot after adding DIMM to the 5th & 6th Slots, it doesnt matter what the operating system is.
Regards,
James.

Re: HP DL380 G4 memory question
The problem is that you are using dual rank DIMM and you can se that dual rank DIMM is supported only in first 2 banks. If you want use all three banks you must use single rank DIMM s. You can view rule for this on the back of access panel.
