HP DL380 G5 - Broadcom 1Gb Drivers

The drivers download page for HP ProLiant DL380 G5 with an OS of Windows Server 2008 R2 currently has two similarly named broadcom drivers listed:

  1. HP Broadcom 1Gb Driver for Windows Server 2008 x64 Editions (American, International)
    Current Version: 17.0.0.3 (15 Jun 2015)
  2. HP Broadcom 1Gb Multifunction Driver for Windows Server 2008 x64 Editions (American, International)
    Current Version: 7.8.50.0 (E) (9 Sep 2014)

Are these two drivers related - is the first intended as a replacement for the second? Or are they two completely unrelated drivers that should both be installed simultaneously?

Re: HP DL380 G5 - Broadcom 1Gb Drivers

Hi,

The server DL380 G5 has "Embedded Dual NC373i Multifunction Gigabit Network Adapter".

Hence the correct driver is HP Broadcom 1Gb Multifunction Driver for Windows Server 2008 x64 Editions.

Release notes of version 7.4.14.0 (B)(19 Feb 2013) shows the supported NIC model.

Version 7.8.50.0 (E)(9 Sep 2014) may not support this card.

Thank You!

Re: HP DL380 G5 - Broadcom 1Gb Drivers

The DL380 G5 uses the "multifunction" Broadcom, so use that driver.

That is the latest version (7.8.50.0 E) so you should be okay.

In the future you could also look for newer drivers by going to the DL380 G6 or DL380 G7 pages.  The DL380 G5 isn't being updated and won't have Server 2008 R2 or 2012 drivers at all, but in the case of the NIC, those G6/G7 servers use the same Broadcom multifunction NIC and you can find the driver there if needed.

I only have one remaining G5 server in use and it comes in handy to look at newer server models as long as they use the same device I need to keep up to date (ILO 2, Broadcom multifunction, etc).
