HP DL580 G3, DL380 G4 and DL360 G4 upgrade to ILO2

Hi,

This is probably a dumb question but I keep seeing people making reference to upgrading from ILO to ILO2. I have the following servers:

DL580 G3

DL380 G4

DL360 G4

all of which are running ILO. I would like to run ILO2 on them if that is possible.

Can someone please tel me if it is possible or not, and if it is how I go about upgrading.

On the servers you listed, iLO hardware is indeed integrated to the system board. You can upgrade the iLO firmware to the latest version, but nothing more.

As far as I've understood, there are hardware-level differences between iLO and iLO2, so a firmware upgrade simply cannot bridge that gap.

Are you sure the references you've seen are not something like "while upgrading to newer-generation servers, I see they have iLO2 instead of the old iLO"? The iLO2 has some significant differences compared to the old iLO, so people deploying new servers have had to adjust their procedures accordingly.

It is NOT possible to use iLO2 firmware in the old iLO-1. iLO2 chip has features that are not available in iLO-1

Its not possible to Upgrade the iLO to iLO2.
