HP ML150 Gen9 SSD on sata port on Motherboard

Hi,

I have a new HP ML150 Gen9 Tower, with dual 1TB SATA connected to the b140 storage controller. Using them in raid 0. Windows 2016 installed and everything runs perfect.

Now i decided to connect a loose SSD harddrive to a free sata connecter on the motherboard. The problem is that windows does not recognize the disk at all. Not te be found in device manager or anywhere else.

If i temporarily switch the bios from UEFI to Legacy i can see the drive in de boot options screen. So the drive seems te be properly recognized by the server. I also tested the ssd in a client pc and it works properly.

Can anyone give me advise in this matter?

Thx!

Dave

Re: HP ML150 Gen9 SSD on sata port on Motherboard

Hi,

I already have the latest drivers for the b140 controller.

But as i said, i have the ssd connected to the mainboard, not to the b140 controller.
It's weird because the optical drive is found in Windows, and the secondary sata where i connected my SSD is not found.

Hello ,

The SATA connectors can be used for Optical drive,SATA 9.5mm DVD-ROM or DVD RW Optical Drive, Tape Drive, or LFF.

Please refer Quick Specs

https://h20195.www2.hpe.com/v2/getpdf.aspx/c04447843.pdf  page 1 and 2

If you want to use SATA hard drive using the SATA port (on motherboard) without using the onboard controller/PCI Storage controller  ,an optional part is required to be installed in the media Bay .Refer Qucikspecs to locate media Bay .
