HP Proliant DL380 G3 RAM question.
I have recently acquired HP Proliant DL380 G3 system. however it did not come with any RAM. I have bought RAM that meets the requirements of the server but to no avail.
My question is, Is there specific RAM for the server or can I use any RAM that is PC2100 compatible?
The error that I'm receiving is the server does not even get to bios. I turn it on it goes for about 10 seconds and then it gives a long beep looking closely at the motherboard it shows the amber lights for all memory slots. When I first received the server it was having this problem. Since then I've bought a new motherboard but still receive the same problem. Everything else in the server itself shows green lights. I'm hoping that this is a simple fix of just using the wrong RAM.

Re: HP Proliant DL380 G3 RAM question.
Hi,
Exactly what memory have you tried using ?
The DL380 G3 should use PC2100 compatible memory, but it has to be ECC.
It also has to be installed in pairs of DIMMs.

Hope this helps,

Rob

Re: HP Proliant DL380 G3 RAM question.
Hello Rob,
Thank you for your reply, it seemed to be very helpful. I did not know that they need to be installed in pairs. I also did not know about the ECC, though I'm sure read it somewhere.
so I went browsing on the web using the spare part number 300700-001 that is listed on the server lid.
And this are what I found
http://www.serversupply.com/HP-COMPAQ/MEMORY/PC-2100/512MB/300700-001.htm
I hope they're correct.
Thank you for your help,
Doug(socerwi22)
