HP ProLiant DL380 G5 Server: is the power supply really broken?
I have a HP ProLiant DL380 G5 Server with a redundant power supply.
After more than one year I noticed the "External health LED (power supply)" was amber: "Power redundancy failure." The power supply on bay n. 1 was degraded as I could seen on the front panel, from the bios startup and from the back of the server too.
Power supply failure
I rapidly ordered a spare part but, after it arrived, I run to replace the power supply with the new one and I found that the power supply was regularly working.
Power supply ok
How is it possible?
What have I to do?

Re: HP ProLiant DL380 G5 Server: is the power supply really broken?
Hello,
Was it loose connection on Power cable? Did you check that before you order a replacement?
Kind Regards
Slav

Re: HP ProLiant DL380 G5 Server: is the power supply really broken?
HP Hot Plug Power Supply 1000W
Compatible with: DL380 G5 , DL385G2-G5, ML350 G5 , ML370 G5, Integrity RX2660
No warranty. This model has a HP Factory design flaw.
When the server is turned off, the power plug MUST be disconnected.
If possible, we advise to change the server settings to "Automatic restart after failure"
Model: DPS-800GB A
P/N: 379123-001 , 403781-001 , 380622-001 , 399771-001 , HSTNS-PD05
I had 2 servers where the second power supply went broken and the server shuts down.
I had to replace both power supplies.
At the office I tested the powersupplies: 1 was complete broken, servers doesn't start. 1 power supply was 'half' broken: fans start spinning, power-button lights amber, but the server can't start with this half -broken powersupply.

Re: HP ProLiant DL380 G5 Server: is the power supply really broken?
be helpful.
Now the power supply seems to be good and I'm waiting for a new problem.
Just a question: can I see with the ILO if the power supply stops working or
how many times it happens?
