HP Proliant DL380 Gen 10 Plus Excessive Fan Noise
I'm a experiencing an excessive fan noise with the recently purchased HP Porliant DL380 Gen 10 Plus.
I have updated the bios to the latest firmware, the fans speed are within normal range, the thermal configuration is set to optimal cooling. What am I missing, or any idea on how to reduce the fan noise?
Regards

Re: HP Proliant DL380 Gen 10 Plus Excessive Fan Noise
Hello,
If there are any third party componenets, then remove them and check if the fans run correctly. If there are components that have been removed, ensure that the respective blanks are installed. If not, then reseat the components such as expansion cards, cables and memory modules and check if the issue is resolved.

Re: HP ProLiant DL380 Gen 10 Plus Excessive Fan Noise
Hi
There are no third-party components installed.
The server is merely 2 months old.

Re: HP ProLiant DL380 Gen 10 Plus Excessive Fan Noise
Hi
The server is a 8 bay SFF, only six (6) are populated with:
2x 1TB SAS HDD and 4X 1.8TB SAS HDD.
The Fan Speed in the ILO fluctuates between 24% and 31%.

Re: HP Proliant DL380 Gen 10 Plus Excessive Fan Noise
@TVVJ Apologies for the late reply.
The below are updated tothe latest version.
1. ILO 5 version 2.96 Aug 17 2023
2. The power management controller firmware - version 1.0.8.
I cant seem to update the firmware of Advanced Power Capping Microcontroller Firmware for HPE Gen10 and Gen10 Plus Servers as it gives me an error, invalid signature file.

Same experience here with DL380 Gen10 Plus nodes. How did you solve the issue with support. Like to know indeed if this is by design or somewhat excessive fan noise.

Re: HP Proliant DL380 Gen 10 Plus Excessive Fan Noise
Hi there,
thanks for helping out
Discussed this with support and have noticed gen10 plus servers are configured with Increased cooling settings in the ILO regarding fan configuration. We changed this to Optimal Cooling and noticed for our use case it didn't involve a huge temperature difference. Having the system running at 23% fanspeed in stead of 46% fanspeed and same temps was the solution for us.
