HP Proliant DL580 G5 stuck on standby

Hi i bought a HP Proliant DL580 G5 from an auction, and inside the small 2 digit "display" says "00". On the bord next to the power supply everything lights green (no blinking) and the power button lights orange.  the UID light is permanently on and pressing it doesnt do anything.

also: when pressing the power button (short or long) nothing happens.

- I tried to clear the cache using the maintenance switched and turning number 6 to on.
- i tried removing all components to the bare minimum

Re: Query: HP Proliant DL580 G5 stuck on standby

I also have a HP Proliant DL580 G7 with same issue, tho after redoing thermalpaste as well it somehow works now.

I dont know why the HP Proliant DL580 G5 is not booting tho. Also, where can i find the Motherboard Codes of the tiny 2 digit display for the HP Proliant DL580 G7 and G5?

@HackTheDev

Based on the symptoms you described, it's possible that your HP Proliant DL580 G5 is stuck in a standby state or fails to boot. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:

  1. Check the power source: Make sure the server is plugged into a functioning power outlet and the power cable is securely connected to the server.

  2. Check the power supply: Check that the power supply is functioning correctly by removing it and testing it with a power supply tester or using a known-good power supply.

  3. Check the memory: Try removing and re-seating the memory modules to make sure they are correctly installed. You can also try booting the server with only one memory module installed to see if it boots successfully.

  4. Check the system board: Check for any obvious signs of damage or corrosion on the system board. You can also try resetting the CMOS by removing the battery or using the system maintenance switch.

  5. Check the processor: If all else fails, try re-seating the processor to make sure it is correctly installed.

Hope it helps! Let me know

These are my opinions so use it at your own risk.

Re: HP Proliant DL580 G5 stuck on standby

  1. The outlets work and i even tried two power supplies at once in case it refuses to boot if it doesnt receive enough power. Everything inside the server lights green, and the Post LED Code on the motherboard is "00".
  2. Power supply works. Tested 6 power supplies
  3. It has 128 or 144 GB Ram. I tested a few on the first slot as well as only one CPU, tho no changes.
  4. I couldnt find any marks of burned spots or other signs of damage. Doesnt smell like burned electronics either. Just a bit dusty.
  5. Before i tried to run it the first time i had replaced all the old thermal paste on all cpus with new ones. Yet not working.

Note: I tried to remove the small battery and even switched the switches on the motherboard and it didnt make any changes, yet its seems to be in standby.

Re: HP Proliant DL580 G5 stuck on standby

Greetings!

It appears that you have already taken some troubleshooting steps, such as testing the server with minimal hardware configuration and clearing the NVRAM. However, in order to further address the issue, it may be necessary to swap out certain parts with known good replacements.

Additionally, the ProLiant DL580 Generation 5 Maintenance and Service guide does not provide a reference for the Post LED code.

To continue with the troubleshooting process, we suggest logging a support case for further investigation or bringing the server to the nearest HPE authorized service center for repair.
