HP PROLIANT ML 350 GEN9 207-invalid Memory Configuration - Processor n, DIMM n
Hello
First excuse my bad English as i'm French
We are setting up a new server that will be dedicated to virtualisation.
Our Config :
-HP Proliant ML350 Gen9
-Ram 12*16 go = 192 go (same spec for each barret, came from HP , HPE smart memory 2R*4 PC4-2133P-R kit))
-drive : 4 disk SAS 10K of 1.2 TO + 2 disk SAS 10K of 300 go
-One HP smart array controller card P440
Our Issue :
**At the boot i've got theses messages :
207-invalid Memory Configuration - Processor 1, DIMM 2
Incorrectly installed.
Please refer to memory Population Rules in documentation
This Memory will not be utilized
207-Memory initialisation error on Processor 1, DIMM 2.
The operating system may not have access to all of the memory
installed in the system.
207-Memory initialisation error on Processor 2, DIMM 1.
The operating system may not have access to all of the memory
installed in the system.
without specific beep signal
So i wanted to swap the processor 1 dimm2 with an another one in order to check if it is was a configuration order problem or a real problem of the dimm (corrupted , damaged by hand manipulation and static electricity involved … )
During this operation i discover that my 1st configuration which was this :
see 1stconfig.png attached
... was obviously false I i refer to to the dimm population order scheme :
see dimmpoporder.png attached
So i move to this second configuration (and still make the switch of 2 dimm)
see 2ndconfig.png attached
Or this 2nd configuration give me this error message during the boot :
207-invalid Memory Configuration - Processor 1, DIMM 2
Incorrectly installed.
Please refer to memory Population Rules in documentation
This Memory will not be utilized
207-invalid Memory Configuration - Processor 1, DIMM 5
Incorrectly installed.
Please refer to memory Population Rules in documentation
This Memory will not be utilized
207-Memory initialisation error on Processor 1, DIMM 2.
The operating system may not have access to all of the memory
installed in the system.
207-Memory initialisation error on Processor 1, DIMM 5.
The operating system may not have access to all of the memory
installed in the system.
207-Memory initialisation error on Processor 2, DIMM 1.
The operating system may not have access to all of the memory
installed in the system.
What's wrong ?
*Do i completely miss interpreted the order scheme ?
For me with 12 dimm so 6 dimm for each processor it's
For precessor 1 white bank (ABCD) first then black (EF) (blue not concerned)
For processor 2 white bank first then black (EF) (blue not concerned)
*or maybe there is two pb combining themself ?

Re: HP PROLIANT ML 350 GEN9 207-invalid Memory Configuration - Processor n, DIMM n
The correct order is A B C D E F ...
Looks like it is installed that way.
But you may also have a bad DIMM, a problem with the slot or a problem with the memory controller (it is inside the CPU).
To test this out, consider to swap some DIMMs around and even swap processor 1 with 2 and see what happens.
Since this is a new system, I would maybe just swap the dimms, then call hp service.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.
