HP Proliant ML 350 - HP Smart Array 641/642
Hello All
i have a HP Prolianta ML 350 server running for some time now and i am happy with it.
At the Smart Array 642 controller i have setup 2 types of RAID.
RAID 0 for my operating system (2* 33 GB HDD) at SLOT 0 & 1
RAID 5 for my data (3 * 72GB HDD) at SLOT 3,4 & 5
I have and extra HDD at the slot 2 which is not used.
My HDD at SLOT 0 from RAID 0 broke down and i took it out and replaced it with the extra one from SLOT 2.
The thing is that i need to "delete" from the Smart Array config the extra HDD cause now it gives me an error message.
Anybody can help?
thx in advance.

Re: HP Proliant ML 350 - HP Smart Array 641/642
In fact it is a bad decision to have a RAID 0 at all ...
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: HP Proliant ML 350 - HP Smart Array 641/642
Hi
Since it is Raid 0 and one of the hard drive has failed, You need to reinstall the OS , replace it with a new hard drive and then re-create the logical drive .

Ok, " The thing is that i need to "delete" from the Smart Array config the extra HDD cause now it gives me an error message " Can you tell me what this means in detail and post error messages ?
Also please use updated ACU and firmware !

Re: HP Proliant ML 350 - HP Smart Array 641/642
Hello
Sorry for the late reply
The message is:
"Following SCSI drive should be replaced SCSI port 2, ID 2" there is where i have the broken one now.
"Online spare drive failed"
and if i enter to the menu of the controller i have 3 options for the current configuration.
1) create logical drive
2) view logical drive
3) delete logical drive
and i went to view and i can see the online spare.
I didnt go to delete cause i dont want to delete my drive which is installed my OS.
should i go there and i will have the option to delete only the spare config?
thx in advance
